What's Happening at Rockmill
Re-opening March 23rd with 11 new baby goats!
by John and Susie Shimp on 03/04/12We are looking forward to seeing our favorite guests from past years and meeting many new guests this coming season. We have been busy on the farm lately. We have 11 new baby goats, two weeks old today. There is a renovation project going on the old Slave House....it will be the new Goat House very soon! Susie needs a comfortable place to milk goats this coming year. The porches are being repainted and the garden is being put in. We have a new house cat, Ellie (a gift of our daughter who lives in PA). She is quite the character. We hope and pray everyone is enjoying health and happiness. Come see us soon!
2011 Season coming to a close.

Closing For The Winter Months....beginning 11/13.
Last winter we closed for several months, while John replaced the old windows in the house....all 35 of them!! We all enjoyed opening the windows this summer and letting the wonderful mountain breezes blow through the house. This winter we will be doing some painting and repairing of porches...maybe even a gazebo...we are thinking about it...well, Susie is! We have had another wonderful season with the kindest and loveliest people. We made new friends and saw many of our old friends. May each of you have a winter filled with good health, precious family memories, and the very best of times. We will see you in the Spring, and again thank you so much for coming this past year! God Bless you!
Wonderful Guests
by John and Susie Shimp on 07/26/11
We have had a season of the most wonderful guests. We have enjoyed getting to know new people and seeing our old favorites. We have enjoyed a new combination of wine and ice cream on the front porch and talked until the tree frogs talked louder. The summer fruits are very tasty and the grass is green and still needing mowing! We look forward to seeing many new guests this fall for wine festivals and apple picking.
The Season Begins
by John and Susie Shimp on 05/01/11
I was out scratching around in the yard, watching the new flowers and bushes and the returners and I realized that I had not updated the blog in a while......and I must confess, I am not much of a blogger.
The windows are all done and we have welcomed guests most of the month....at least on weekends while Susie is "Grandmothering" in Crozet for our newest grandchild Hannah.
The schedule opens up in May and we are filling up weekends and some days in between. So nice to have returning guests, and always fun to meet new ones.....
My best advice for our site visitors is to check us out on Facebook....Susie does a fine job of keeping up with that.....it may be Fall before I think about blogging again....but you never know....
Enjoy your Spring and Summer......I am on strawberry and raspberry watch, so if you don't see me check out in the berry patch or in our new raised beds....
Thinking Spring thoughts
by John and Susie Shimp on 01/07/11Sitting here in the warm basement the first week of January and thinking about the year ahead. I am already behind on the window replacement project, seeing that winter showed up in early December and seems inclined to stick around......but we are encouraged by the windows done so far.....the wind does not howl through them and we can open and close them....and clean them easily! Guests too will be able to open windows and enjoy that nice country air. I always remember our European guests who somehow managed getting those old windows open, even in cold weather.
